Do these guys suck as much as I think they do?
That was terrible. And Ryan had the nerve to diss Simon whose only mistake was letting half these guys in the final in the first place.
How bad is Sundance? Simon originally said he blew Taylor
away. Of course he didn't like Taylor at first either. These guys loved Sundance's audition so much, they ignored bad performances in Hollywood and put him in over that guy Jimmy who was good. And then he came out and just stunk up the joint. One of the worst performances ever.
Until Sunjaya took the stage. Another good auditioner who sounded bad in Hollywood and made it anyway. I am hoping this guy make the top 12, cause I wanna see that smokin' hot sister of his in the audience, but this kid
made Chicken Little sound like Al
Green. Just plain awful.
Definitely the worst two on a night of mediocrity.
Who was good? That question is relative. Phil Stacy hit some good notes, but when he wasn't belting or going high he was WAY off key. On a totally separate note, I don't think he should shave his head. The big eyebrows together with the shaved head (and oddly shaped head) make a bad combination.
Brandon was good too, and I'm not just saying that because I said last week that Phil and Brandon were two of my three favorites. I just hope Brandon has another speed, cause I'm not gonna want to hear him sing at the top of his register every damn week. Again Simon was spot on. I love when
he
ballad-ized the beginning of Rock With You, but through the rest of it, he sounded like a background singer.
The judges thought Chris Richardson and Blake were good, but I think they were just okay on good song choices. I think Chris' voice is just ordinary, but he's got charisma, looks and a fashion sense. I thought Blake was kind of like Phil Stacy, good on the big notes, shakey on the low notes. Better falsetto than most of the guys (about half of whom had at least a little falsetto in their songs).
The other Chris (Sligh) I found disappointing. Don't know if that was the right song for him. I kept imagining Chris Daughtry knocking that one out of the park. And if Sligh is going to push the humor too hard, it's going to get tired fast. Simon gave him a legitimate critique and Chris came back with
an insult he had clearly saved up for the occassion. Simon of course came back with no class.
So who does that leave? Rudy, who danced too much and sounded just okay; Paul Kim who seemed to be struggling for air and whose falsetto was off and Nick and Jared, both of whom were pretty good but forgettable among so many competitors. I like Nick's tone. He sounds like a Jazz singer and the kind of texture and style he brings allows him to be a little bit flat and sound like he's okay. However a couple of times he was sharp, and that's no good. He also lacked energy. Jared has confidence, but maybe too
much. The competition has yet to yield a successful contemporary R&B singer. Rueben and Taylor aren't too contemporary. I don't know if Jared is going break through.
And then we have AJ. I didn't like him as much as the judges did.
He was just another forgettable guy. Without looking at dialidol, I'm going to guess the first two to go should be Sundance and Sunjaya, but will be Rudy and Nick.
The women better be better

I missed Chris Sligh's performance, but did catch the Teletubby comment. Not so nice to the guy who judges you. I originally liked his sense of humor - thought it was great. Hopefully he will go back to being funny, and not nasty next week.
Overall, pretty boring night - and man did they stretch it out with all of the extra video footage - yawn!
