Well I'm starting to feel good about this season after all. I still don't think the guys are as good this year as they were last year, but they sure were better than they were last week.
Last night I didn't see a single weak link... above the age of 18.
Oh, Sanjaya, you seem like such a nice young man, but you have got to have the weakest voice to ever get this far. Chicken Little... John the Crooner... they were belters compared to Young Mister Whisper. Has Idol ever had a good male singer in his teens? I think not. And there have been so many good female singers in that age group.
Anyway, it was one thing for Sanjaya to be in the top four when everybody sucked, but he's gonna have a hard time hanging on with that song against the other nine last night. And dusting off a chestnut from the Fred Astaire songbook isn't going to help him any with the speed-dialing teenyboppers. But no predictions. He's just to iffy.
If not Sanjaya, then who? Or... who else?
I have to think the first two guys aren't all that safe. Phil is okay, but his song was kind of dull till the very end. And going first on a night of better perfomances won't help. Jared to me is forgettable. Last week I said that Brandon was the only black man in the competition. I forgot Jared. I didn't overlook him. I forgot him. He's forgettable. And his over produced gimmicks don't make him memorable in a good way. I don't see any heart in his perfomance. None of the feeling or sensitivity that we like our crooners to at least pretend to have. Too much dancing, too many moves. I wouldn't hate to see him go.
I like Nick, but I think (once again) that he's in trouble and maybe even Brandon. For the second week in a row, Brandon sang in the semi-falsetto that has me wondering if that's the only voice he has. He picked a song I love, and he sang it well, but... And Simon is right about Nick. He lacks charisma.
One guy I'm not crazy about but the jugdes love is Chris Robinson. Am I the only one who thinks he has no voice?
Chris Sleigh kind of nailed it top to bottom tonight. Just mentioning that he had a wife (I didn't know) made him look a little older and more serious. If Sundance finished first last week, this week he should be through the roof. He is kind of Taylor-like after all. When he started singing Mustang Sally, I was ready to hit the snooze button, but he sold it.
Blake scored again this week. I think he is a definitely unigue. I don't think he's a very good singer, but he's as unique and versatile as any Idol contestant I can remember. And AJ stepped up his game.
Speaking of AJ, he's the one guy this year who I'm pretty sure is gay. But I'm starting to wonder about Sonjaya and Blake. Which of the guys is gay? Anybody care to haul out their gay-dar.

Chris R isn't my taste but I saw a glimmer of professionalism and charisma. Also an irritating song.
Still totally digging Chris Sligh -- he's unique and crazy talented. If you're interested check out a band called Mute Math on iTunes Store. Chris is/was in that band, wrote all the songs, sang them all... he's a bit of a powerhouse. ;-)
I was actually pretty impressed with AJ -- boy can sing.
Sanjaya is a gonner. Horrid. Sundance bores me - we already have a Taylor.
Phil was forgettable and poor little Sanjaya - I don't know if there's any saving him after this week.
My husband and I totally dug Blake's improv, and it made him stand out. And Chris Sligh is still impressing us as a performer and person.
Thanks for the tip Kathy - I'm going to go check out his stuff!
