WAS THAT A RERUN?
I kept waiting for somebody to do noticably better or worse than last week, but the good singers sang well again and the not so good ones... didn't.
The biggest switch was that last week Lakeeha was the best and Melinda came in second. This week they traded places. I was wondering if Simon was going to diss Melinda for singing an older song and appearing older singing it, but it's hard to knock somebody for choosing a beautiful song and singing in wonderfully.
I was less impressed than the judges were with Stephanie. Talk about a tough song to sing. That Beyonce song has the oddest beat and I'm not quite sure she nailed it throughout. In such a tough competition, it's risky to pick something that offbeat. I was surprised the judges liked it as much as they did.
And for the second week, I was not as high on Jordin as the judges. My problem with her is that she's 17, but I have a hard time seeing her as 17. She doesn't look or act that way. Last year, Lisa and especially Paris seemed like kids who could sing like grown-ups. It was easy to root for them. Not that Jordin isn't likable, but I don't tend to give her the benefit of the doubt that I would give Paris or Lisa or Sanjaya if he could hit a note.
And then there was Sabrina, who didn't do as well as last week, but still can sing and still looks great. She's probably the only woman in the competition I would make both those statements about.
Come to think of it, there aren't many girls this year who I think look great, and I think we are about to have one less.
Antonella just has to go. What makes a girl who can't carry a Steven Tyler song think she can sing a Celine Dion song? I thought she was a decent singer in the auditions. What the hell happened? Paula said that less than 1% of all people can sing like Celine. If it's that many, shouldn't anybody that gets this far be able to do it? Antonella couldn't carry a Paula Abdul song.
So who else should go home? I guess Alaina. She was pretty mediocre.
I don't like Gian much, but she can sing. Not great, but good. And I agreed with Simon. If she's going to be a rocker, she should dress different.
Haley sings okay, but has no real style. Leslie has some style, but doesn't sing so great. I like Leslie... but I couldn't tell you why. She sang the same song as AJ. I think he sang it better, but she sang it different.
So... I think/hope Antonella and Alaina are going home and as for who is going all the way, all I can say is... it is on.
